MEET ROLF ERIKSON

The Visionary Journey of Rolf Erikson

I was born with a keen interest in being creative, a passion that has remained with me, despite the challenges that life inevitably presents. Throughout my life, I have studied art, taught art, created art, and worked in space planning and interior design. Now, as a retiree living in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a studio in nearby Somerville, I am embracing the gift of abundant free time to create art.

Currently, my artistic focus lies in acrylic painting and mixed media, including collage. Working with fabric is a recent discovery that I thoroughly enjoy.

My art-making process is guided by what brings me pleasure, rather than trying to please others. This shift has allowed me to create art that is uniquely mine, drawing inspiration from childhood memories, emotions, experiences of pain, loss, growth, and a deep connection to nature and its beauty.

Approaching my art in a childlike, playful manner, yet with the wisdom of an adult, I find inspiration in ordinary things, turning them into something beautiful through careful observation. I delight in discovering new tools and materials to work with, creating surprising and delightful effects. For me, learning is a hands-on experience, as I strive to create art that is thought-provoking and evokes emotions in the viewer.
